This is where you will select the French topic your group is working on and access the matching Study Sheet and curriculum materials.

Choose the topic you are going to work on with the children.

Open that topic and download its Study Sheet.

The Study Sheet contains the vocabulary the children will be learning and will be used throughout this topic.

Print enough copies of the Study Sheet for every child who will participate in the class.

For example, if 12 children are expected, prepare at least 12 Study Sheets before the class begins.

Each child should have their own copy so they can see, follow and read the vocabulary during the activity.

Open VerbaVista and become familiar with the main interface.

VerbaVista provides the French pronunciation and audio support for the vocabulary being studied.

You will use VerbaVista together with the Study Sheet, so always make sure you are working with the same topic in both applications.

Return to the same topic in VerbaVista and open the Details & Facts section.

Download the file, open the PDF and read it before the class begins.

Details & Facts provides additional explanations for vocabulary or visuals that may require clarification.

For example, when multiple images or emojis are combined to represent one meaning, this section helps you understand why they are being used together so you can answer children’s questions during the activity.

Download the matching Classroom Pack

Inside VerbaVista, select the same topic that you selected in Worksheet Genie AI.

Scroll to the Classroom Pack section and download the Classroom Pack for that topic.

The Classroom Pack will download as a ZIP file.

Print the Classroom Pack

Double-click the downloaded ZIP file to unzip it.

Open the Classroom Pack materials and print the vocabulary visuals inside.

Classroom Packs normally contain up to 10 vocabulary items at a time, although smaller topics may contain fewer.

These materials will be displayed in the classroom to provide repeated visual exposure to the vocabulary.

Step 1

Display the Classroom Pack

Before the children arrive, place the printed Classroom Pack materials on the classroom wall, whiteboard or another clearly visible area.

Keep the materials somewhere children can continue seeing them throughout the topic.

The purpose is not decoration. Repeated exposure helps children recognize, remember and recall the vocabulary over time.

Prepare the Study Sheets

Make sure there is one printed Study Sheet ready for every child who will participate.

Place the Study Sheets somewhere they can be distributed easily when the class begins.

Before starting the activity, confirm that:

  • The Classroom Pack is displayed.
  • The correct topic is ready in VerbaVista.
  • Every child has a Study Sheet available.

You are now ready to begin the During Class phase.

Step 3

Create the Star Progress Report

This is a one-time classroom setup. You do not need to make a new Star Progress Report for every class or every topic.

Before beginning the program, prepare one Star Progress Report on a large piece of chart paper and display it on the classroom wall where the children can see it.

Write each participating child’s name down the left side of the chart.

Across the top, create these columns:

  • I Read French
  • I Listened to French
  • I Wrote French
  • Future Skill — leave this space open for another SavoirNest skill to be added later, such as I Spoke French

Leave enough space beside each child’s name for them to place a star in the correct column.

The children will add the stars, not the facilitator. Do not add any stars yourself.

Keep the Star Progress Report on the wall throughout the program. The children will use it later, after they complete each part of the learning process.

Make it once → put it on the wall → keep it there → use it later for the celebration/progress step.

Run VerbaVista, choose a screen or wall delivery, keep audio clear, and stay on the same vocabulary.

Operate

Step 1

Open the same topic in VerbaVista

Open VerbaVista and select the same topic that you previously selected in Worksheet Genie AI and used for the children’s Study Sheets.

The facilitator does not need to speak French.

VerbaVista provides the French pronunciation for you. Your role is to operate the application, guide the children through the vocabulary and make sure everyone participates.

Use the Next button to move through the words and the Replay button whenever the children need to hear a pronunciation again. You may replay a word as many times as necessary.

Step 2

French Voice Check — Only If Needed

Skip this step unless the French voice in VerbaVista sounds wrong. If it sounds clear, leave it alone and go on to Work with one Classroom Pack at a time.

Before using VerbaVista with the children, test 2–3 words and listen to the French voice.

If the pronunciation sounds clear and natural, do not change anything. Your device is ready.

If the voice sounds garbled, unclear, very robotic, or incorrect, do not use that voice with the children. Check whether another French voice is available on the device.

Go to:

Settings → Time & language → Language & region

Check whether French is installed and whether its Speech / Text-to-speech features are available. Additional speech features can be downloaded through the internet.

Go to:

Apple menu → System Settings → Accessibility → Read & Speak

Under System Voice, you can listen to available voices, choose another voice, or download additional voices. An internet connection is needed to download a new voice.

Important

Do not change your computer’s main language just to use SavoirNest.

Only make changes if the French pronunciation in VerbaVista does not sound right.

  • Sounds good → Leave it alone.
  • Sounds wrong → Try another French voice.
  • Still sounds wrong → Stop and contact the SavoirNest team. We will help you set it up before using it with the children.

Most classrooms will never need this. Use it only if the voice is garbled, robotic, or otherwise strange. If a quick voice change does not fix it, contact the SavoirNest team before class so we can set the device up with you.

Step 3

Work with one Classroom Pack at a time

Only work with the vocabulary contained in the current Classroom Pack.

For example, if the Classroom Pack contains 10 words, focus only on those 10 words during that stage of the topic.

The children’s Study Sheet may contain many more words, but they should follow and identify only the words being covered in the current Classroom Pack.

Do not rush through the entire Study Sheet at once. The goal is to work through the vocabulary in manageable groups so children have time to see, hear, repeat and retain each set of words.

Do not rush to the next Classroom Pack. Give children time to work with and retain the current vocabulary first.

Choose your delivery method

With or without a screen

There are two ways to run VerbaVista: with a screen, or without a screen.

Both methods use the same vocabulary, Study Sheet and Classroom Pack.

Step 1

With a screen

If your classroom has a television, projector or other shared screen, display VerbaVista so the children can see the vocabulary together.

Work through the same words contained in the current Classroom Pack. As each word appears:

  1. Show the word on the screen.
  2. Ask the children to locate the same word on their Study Sheet.
  3. Play the French pronunciation.
  4. Have the children repeat the word.
  5. Use Replay whenever needed.
  6. Continue to the next word.

The words being shown on the screen should match the vocabulary currently displayed from the Classroom Pack.

Step 2

Without a screen

A large screen is recommended, but it is not required.

If there is no projector, television or shared classroom screen, use the printed Classroom Pack that was placed on the wall or whiteboard before class.

Use a pointer or your hand to identify each vocabulary item on the wall. Ask the children to locate the same word on their Study Sheet.

The facilitator can operate VerbaVista from a laptop or mobile device while the children follow the printed materials.

Work through the vocabulary in the same way: Point → Find on Study Sheet → Play → Listen → Repeat → Replay if needed.

The learning process stays the same even when there is no shared screen.

Audio & pronunciation

Hear and repeat

Step 1

Connect your device to the classroom audio

Connect the laptop, tablet or mobile device running VerbaVista to a Bluetooth speaker or suitable classroom speaker.

Make sure the children can clearly hear the French pronunciation before beginning.

Step 2

Play, repeat and replay

For each word in the current Classroom Pack:

  1. Select the word in VerbaVista.
  2. Play the French pronunciation.
  3. Make sure the children listen.
  4. Ask the whole group to repeat the word.
  5. Press Replay whenever they need to hear it again.
  6. Continue only when the group has had an opportunity to practise the word.

The facilitator does not need to pronounce the French independently. The application provides the pronunciation. Your responsibility is to make sure the children listen and participate.

Connecting the three materials

Same vocabulary

Step 1

Keep everything on the same vocabulary

During the activity, three things should always stay connected:

Study Sheet → VerbaVista → Classroom Pack

The children should:

  • See the vocabulary on their Study Sheet
  • Hear the same vocabulary through VerbaVista
  • See the same vocabulary displayed through the Classroom Pack

This gives children repeated exposure to the same words through reading, listening and classroom visuals.

Step 2

Keep the Classroom Pack visible

Keep the current Classroom Pack visible for multiple days while children are learning those words. Do not remove or replace it immediately after the activity.

The Classroom Pack stays visible so children continue seeing the vocabulary outside the immediate VerbaVista activity. Repeated exposure supports recognition, recall and retention.

Once the group is ready to move to the next Classroom Pack, add the next set. Where wall or whiteboard space allows, keep earlier Classroom Packs visible for continued recall.

If space is limited, earlier Classroom Packs may be removed and rotated back into the classroom periodically for review and recall.

The purpose is not to permanently fill the classroom walls. The purpose is to make sure children repeatedly encounter vocabulary they have already learned.

During class · Stage 7

Complete the full topic

Pack by pack

Step 1

Repeat the process with the next Classroom Pack

Do not move through all of the vocabulary at once.

Continue working with the current Classroom Pack until the children have had sufficient time to practise and retain those words.

When you are ready to continue, move to the next Classroom Pack for the same topic and repeat the same process:

Print → Display → Find on Study Sheet → Play → Listen → Repeat → Replay → Retain

Keep previous Classroom Packs displayed where space allows, or rotate them back into the classroom for quick recall activities.

Video or image Add the next Classroom Pack and repeat the same loop.

Step 2

Continue until the entire Study Sheet has been covered

Repeat this process with each Classroom Pack associated with the topic.

Some topics may have only one Classroom Pack, while larger topics may have several.

Continue until every vocabulary word on the Study Sheet has been introduced and practised through VerbaVista.

Do not skip words and do not introduce unrelated vocabulary.

The complete topic may take multiple sessions or multiple weeks. The goal is retention, not speed.

Once the complete Study Sheet has been covered and the children have had repeated exposure to the vocabulary, you are ready to move into the Retention Check phase.

Check retention with WC5. The class needs 4 out of 5 before they move on.

Step 1

Complete the WC5 (Word Check Five)

Once the complete topic has been covered, complete the WC5 — Word Check Five before moving forward.

WC5 is a simple retention check using five words from the Study Sheet the children have already learned. Do not introduce new vocabulary during this check.

Your goal is to see whether the class can correctly recall at least 4 out of 5 words.

You can run the WC5 in different ways:

  • Ask the whole group what a selected word means.
  • Show or say a word from the Study Sheet and ask the children to identify it.
  • Invite children to point to the matching vocabulary on the Classroom Pack displayed on the wall or whiteboard.
  • Mix the five words so the children are recalling them rather than simply following the original order.

4 out of 5 correct = ready to move forward.

The WC5 helps confirm that the children have retained the vocabulary, rather than simply seeing or hearing it during the previous activities.

Step 2

Review again if the class does not reach 4/5

If the class does not reach at least 4 out of 5 correct answers, do not move into the approval stage yet.

Return to the vocabulary that needs more practice. Use the same learning materials again:

Study Sheet → VerbaVista → Classroom Pack → Listen → Repeat → Recall

Play the French audio again, use the Replay button when needed, and continue reviewing the vocabulary with the children.

Keep the Classroom Pack visible so the words remain available for repeated exposure.

When the children have had more time to practise and retain the vocabulary, complete the WC5 again.

The purpose of the WC5 is not to rush the class forward. The purpose is to confirm that the children have actually learned and retained enough of the topic before moving to the next stage.

After retention

Get a class yes, put up the Approval Note, and use the monthly paint stamp only once a month.

Step 1

Ask the class for verbal approval

Once the class reaches at least 4 out of 5 on the WC5, ask the children whether they feel ready to approve the topic.

Ask the class: “Are we ready to approve this topic, class, and move to the next step?”

Give the children the opportunity to respond together. The class should give a clear Yes before the topic is formally approved.

This creates a simple class sign-off after the vocabulary has been learned and the retention check has been completed.

Step 2

Add the Approval Note

Once the class has completed the full topic, reached at least 4 out of 5 on the WC5, and given verbal approval to move forward, create an Approval Note.

Take a Post-it note and write APPROVAL NOTE. Add your name or initials and place the Approval Note on the classroom wall or whiteboard where the children can see it.

The Approval Note shows that the class has learned the topic, passed the retention check and approved moving forward.

This gives the group a visible sign that the topic has been completed and approved.

Step 3

Complete the Monthly Paint Stamp activity

The Monthly Paint Stamp Activity is completed once per month, not after every topic.

During the activity, invite the children to participate in a larger class sign-off. Ask: “Who wants to approve what we learned this month with me?”

Use a piece of chart paper and allow the participating children to add a fingerprint or handprint using the prepared paint activity. The completed sheet can then be displayed in the classroom.

The Monthly Paint Stamp acts as a class celebration and visible recognition of the learning that has taken place during the month.

Remember: Approval Note = regular topic approval. Paint Stamp = once-a-month class celebration and sign-off.

Once the retention and approval steps are complete, the class is ready to move into the Worksheet Genie AI Exercise & Evaluation phase.

After approval

Go back to Worksheet Genie AI and start the writing exercises, one type at a time.

Step 1

Return to Worksheet Genie AI and download the exercise

Once the topic has been completed, the class has passed the retention check, and the topic has been approved, return to Worksheet Genie AI.

Open the same topic that the children have already studied.

You are now moving from vocabulary learning and retention into the writing and evaluation stage.

Select the exercise you want to use and download it.

The exercise will download as a ZIP file. Double-click the ZIP file to unzip it and open the materials inside.

The downloaded folder will contain the exercise materials you need for the class.

Video or image Open the same topic, then download and unzip the exercise.

Step 2

Follow the recommended exercise order

Print enough copies of the selected exercise for the whole class. Each child should complete their own copy.

The exercises should normally be introduced in this order:

  1. Matching
  2. Multiple Choice
  3. Fill in the Blanks
  4. Translation

This order gradually increases the level of difficulty. Matching provides the most support. Multiple Choice still gives children answer options to work from. Fill in the Blanks requires more independent recall. Translation requires the greatest amount of independent written production.

The goal is to move children from easier recognition activities toward more demanding written work.

Answer sheets get downloaded as well

When you downloaded the exercise ZIP file, the corresponding answer sheet was included with it.

You do not need to know all of the French answers yourself.

Use the supplied answer sheet to check the children’s completed work. Your role is to compare their answers with the provided answers and identify what they understood correctly and where they may still need support.

Step 4

Use the available exercise variations

Worksheet Genie AI provides two variations of each exercise type.

You can use the available variations based on the needs of your class. For example, a second variation may be used for additional practice, review or another round of evaluation.

The facilitator does not need to create new curriculum materials independently.

Take your time

The exercise stage does not need to be completed in a single day.

Depending on the topic, the class and the children, the exercises may be completed across several sessions or over one or two weeks.

The purpose is not to finish the worksheets as quickly as possible. The purpose is to make sure the children are actually using and demonstrating the vocabulary they previously learned.

Complete the Star Progress Report

Once the exercises have been completed and checked, it is time to celebrate what the children have accomplished.

Use the Star Progress Report displayed in the classroom. Invite each child to add a star to the progress areas they have now completed.

At this stage, the children have worked across three language skills:

  • I Read French
  • I Listened to French
  • I Wrote French

Each child adds a star beside:

  • I Read French because they worked with the Study Sheet and followed the written vocabulary.
  • I Listened to French because they heard and practised the French pronunciation through VerbaVista.
  • I Wrote French because they completed the Worksheet Genie AI exercises.

The Star Progress Report creates a visible record of progress that the children can see and celebrate. It also helps make the learning journey visible inside the classroom.

Choose a new topic

Once the topic has been completed, evaluated and celebrated, begin a new topic.

Worksheet Genie AI and VerbaVista provide a large curriculum library with 80+ topics, approximately 2,900 vocabulary words and 700+ worksheets available across the program.

There is no need to create new curriculum from scratch. Choose the next appropriate topic for your group and begin the learning cycle again.

What Your Class Has Completed

By the end of this learning cycle, the children have practised three French skills:

  • Study Sheet → Reading
  • VerbaVista → Listening
  • Worksheet Genie AI Exercises → Writing

The Star Progress Report gives children a simple way to see what they have completed and gives families a clear picture of the skills being practised in the program.

In Tab 2, you will learn how French Burst 45 adds the fourth skill: Speaking.

Restart the learning journey

For the new topic, return to the beginning:

Choose Topic → Download Study Sheet → Print Study Sheets → Open the Same Topic in VerbaVista → Download Classroom Pack → Display → Read → Listen → Repeat → Retain → WC5 → Approval → Exercises → Evaluation → Celebration

Then repeat the same process with the next topic.

By the time a child reaches the end of this cycle, they have read French, listened to French and written French.

The next Savoir Nest component, French Burst 45, builds on this foundation by adding the speaking component.

This is where you will select the French sound card, choose the verbs you want the children to practise, play the French pronunciation and sentences, and move through the speaking activity.

The facilitator does not need to speak French independently. French Burst 45 provides the French pronunciation and sentence support during the activity.

Choose the sound card you want the class to work with.

French Burst 45 contains different French sound families, with verbs connected to each sound.

You can choose the sound you want to practise with your class.

Download five verbs

From the selected sound card, choose and download five verbs for the class to work with.

These five verbs will become the current speaking set.

Do not try to cover a large number of verbs at once. The goal is to give children enough time to repeatedly see, hear, understand and speak the selected verbs and sentences.

Download and print the C2H worksheet

Open the C2H — Class to Home worksheet page using the provided centre access.

Download the C2H worksheet and print enough copies for every child participating in the class.

For example, if 12 children are attending, prepare at least 12 worksheets.

The C2H worksheet will be used during the speaking activity so children can record what they are learning and later take the sheet home for additional practice.

Step 1

Display the sound card and five verbs

Before the children arrive, display the selected sound card and five verb visuals on the classroom wall, whiteboard or another clearly visible area.

Keep all five verbs visible so children can repeatedly see the vocabulary they will be using for speaking practice.

The purpose is continued exposure and retention. The verbs should remain available for children to look at and recall between speaking sessions.

Prepare the C2H worksheets

Make sure there is one C2H worksheet ready for every child.

Before beginning, confirm that:

  • The selected sound card is displayed.
  • The five selected verb visuals are displayed.
  • French Burst 45 is ready on the classroom device.
  • Every child has a C2H worksheet available.

You are now ready to begin the speaking activity.

Add Speaking to the Star Progress Report

If you already created the Star Progress Report in Tab 1, do not make a new one. Use the same chart already displayed in your classroom.

Change the Future Skill column to:

  • I Spoke French

Your Star Progress Report should now include:

  • I Read French
  • I Listened to French
  • I Wrote French
  • I Spoke French

Keep each participating child’s name down the left side of the chart.

Do not add the speaking stars yet.

Children will add their own I Spoke French star later, after they complete the French Burst 45 speaking activity and reach the required 4 out of 5 on the speaking WC5.

Once the speaking cycle is complete, invite each child to place a star beside their name under:

Keep the same Star Progress Report on the classroom wall so children can see all four French skills they are building over time.

Already made it in Tab 1 → change “Future Skill” to “I Spoke French” → keep it on the wall → add the star later.

If you have not created a Star Progress Report yet, create one now using a large piece of chart paper with each child’s name and the four skill columns above.

During class

Run French Burst 45, keep audio clear, speak two verbs at a time, and complete the C2H worksheet.

Step 1

Display French Burst 45 on the screen

Open French Burst 45 and display the application on the classroom projector, television or shared screen.

Select the same sound card that was prepared before class.

The children should be able to see the French Burst 45 activity while the facilitator controls the application.

Step 2

Select two verbs for the session

Work with approximately two of the five selected verbs at a time.

The C2H worksheet is designed around two verbs, so there is no need to rush through all five verbs during one session.

For example, the class may work with:

  • Day 1 — Two verbs
  • Day 2 — Two verbs
  • Day 3 — Final verb / review

The exact timing can be adjusted depending on the children and the amount of practice they need.

The important principle is to make sure the children can understand and speak the sentences, rather than simply moving through the application quickly.

Use this walkthrough to learn how the French Burst 45 interface works from start to finish.

You will see how to:

  • Follow the selected sound and verb
  • Move through each step used to build the French sentence
  • Use prompts such as Remove the AY
  • Follow the sentence-building activity on screen
  • Use Previous Step and Got It — Next
  • Use Replay whenever children need to hear the French again
  • Guide the children to listen, repeat and speak the completed sentence

You do not need to create or pronounce the French sentences yourself. French Burst 45 provides the guided pathway and French audio.

Your role is to operate the activity, follow the steps shown on screen, replay the audio when needed, and make sure the children are listening and speaking along.

Use French Burst 45 to guide the children through the selected verbs and sentences. For each activity:

  1. Display the verb and sentence.

  6. Continue practising until the children have had a proper opportunity to speak.

The facilitator does not need to independently pronounce the French. The application provides the French pronunciation.

  • Invite children to come to the wall and identify a verb before speaking its sentence.
  • Use the completed C2H worksheet as a prompt.
  • Ask the group to recall the sentence connected with one of the selected verbs.

4 out of 5 verbs successfully recalled/spoken = ready to move forward.

Make sure your Laptop is connected to a bluetooth speaker and to a display screen. Test the setup before proceeding in class, check if the audio and screen functionality are working.

  • 5 lives to complete five French words
  • Replay — hear each word again, up to three times
  • Next Two Letters — reveal two letters as a hint

Play the French word through Vocabuvore.

Use the Replay button whenever the children need to hear the word again.

Ask the children to work together and determine how the word should be spelled.

The class can call out the letters they believe should be entered. Use the keyboard to type the letters selected by the group.

Because the laptop is connected to the projector, the children can see the spelling appearing on the screen as you type.

The facilitator operates the keyboard while the children provide the answers. Continue through the selected vocabulary in this way.
